First skating lesson

R had her first skating lesson today.  She was excited to be going.   The instructor came over to the boards, and we sent R out.  The assistant skated with her between her legs over a little ways in.  She worked with R for the first while showing her how to get up from the ice.   R was somewhat sucessful at this, especially when the assistant held her first skate still.   The whole class was pretty funny looking, these 10 kids wriggling like little worms on the ice.   They were pretty good about wriggling around, scooching on their butts, and crawling on their knees.   The instructor brought out toys which seemed to really motivate R to move around.   The last few minutes she worked again with the head instructor and got to standing by herself, un-assisted.   For some reason this threw her, and she started crying.   After the lesson we told her how proud we were of her, and how great she did standing on her own.  She is now looking forward to next week.  We should really all go together to a family skate, but that means that both daddy and I need to get skates.
