What a little fish!

We’ve been trying to get to the pool every few days with R. On Friday night Grandpa told her to swim under water, then come up and take a breath, then put her head back down and swim more. So on Saturday, she went swimming with daddy, and she swam half of the length of the pool using the up/down technique!!
Today she was ‘diving’ into the pool. Wow.
It’s almost done!

I am please to report that as of 11:30pm today I have finished piecing R’s 100 good wishes quilt. I just need to add the border, then get it quilted.Â
Sleepover!!!
Posted by ahechtenns On August 24, 2007
Wow. R spent last night sleeping over at Oma & Opa’s house.  Her 3 cousins were also there.  It sounds like they had a great time. Apparently they watched a movie, and had a large bowl of cheesies at 10pm! My girl was up until midnight, although she slept through until 6am! Oma says she woke up to a tap on her shoulder and R’s little face near hers saying “Oma did you miss me?”.  What a hoot.

The cousins came over

It was another sweltering day. Around 32 degrees with the humidex (for those of you who don’t know what that means, it is measure of exactly how miserable we are! ok, “combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine an apparent temperature — how hot it actually feels”).Â
Anyways, I digress. We met the cousins at the pool and found out the pool was filled to capacity, we’d have to wait to get in. So we changed plans and came back to our house. The kids played in the two kiddie pools, but ended up having the most fun with mixing water and sidewalk chalk to get a paste, then decorating the patio. Very artistic. K as you can see, had lots of fun with the green chalk. More pictures here.
Last gymnastics class
Posted by ahechtenns On August 23, 2007
Today was R’s last gymnastics class. For the most part she has really enjoyed it.  We usually start in the kiddie gym, where there is pint size equipment.  Mid-class we go downstairs to the big gym, with the large equipment. Lots of kids are in classes/training there. R never wants to go in, as she complains to me it is “stinky”. She gets so upset she’s almost in tears! She always perks up once in there though. Her teacher was great, and she helped R do headstands and handstands. R learned how to do a ‘skin the cat’ at this class.  It was great fun, and our friend G was there too. More pictures are in the gallery.
Stuck between 2 deer and a Buick…
Posted by ahechtenns On August 17, 2007
We were at the African Lion Safari today. It was a fun day.  The highlight for Albert was feeding the goats. I must admit it was fun as well, and R wasn’t afraid of the goats this year! She had a great time feeding them. Daddy distracted some of the larger more agressive goats, and she would walk over and try to find a specific goat to feed. It was hilarious.  We went on a train ride around the site, saw Elephants go for a swim, R had a pony ride, and of course we drove through the safari, hence the title. These very large deer (Elands actually, 2metres plus tall) boxed us in, one at the front driver’s side, and one at the left rear. And directly in front was a Buick. We had to wait until the Elands got bored.  For the first time we actually took our own car through the monkey area. We were very disapointed to be dissed by all the monkeys.  They were climbing other cars and sitting on them, but not ours! :-( We have to find a pick up truck to go through with next time, as the monkeys could not stop jumping in and out of the pick-up beds. Great fun. Check out R and the goats in the gallery.
Last class

Today was R’s last “Creative Movement” class.  She’s being doing this once a week since the beginning of summer. We got to watch the last class.  R moved her way through the class, hardly stopping. Please excuse some of the pictures, she was moving so much I got quite a few blurry ones! She was delighted to get a certificate at the end of class. When the teacher handed her the certificate, she said “Thank you VERY much”! Check out the gallery.
Check out these tomatos!!

I am so proud!! These are some of my first tomatos from the garden. I believe they are from a a variety called “Ugly”. My plants are all overgrown together, so this is my best guess.  This is the biggest tomato I’ve ever seen! And tasty too I might add.
Herman the frog…

We had a good weekend at the cabin with Grandma and Grandpa. We were also delighted to be able to visit with Tante E and Onkle H from Winnipeg. It was a really nice visit. R also enjoyed playing on the beach with Tante E, she told her “You sit down Tante E, I’ll do the work”. They proceeded to play in the sand together.   Later on Tante E caught R a frog which we had fun watching. We also had a great time playing in the lake , and jumping off the dock.Â
The next day we had some more cousins of my dad come visit for lunch and supper It was nice to see them again, it has been a long time.  As they left in the evening, they gave R this frog that has a wobbly head. She thought it was great.  We asked her what we should call it, and Grandpa interjected that it should be named after that famous frog, Herman. We could simply not remember a famous frog named Herman…It finally came to us that he was talking about Kermit the frog!  Anywas. Despite all of our suggestions R decided to name her frog “Froggit”.Â
Every evening R requested a “camp”. It took us a long time to figure out that she ment roasting marshmellows over a campfire! Grandpa and her had a wonderfully sticky time roasting and eating. Fun time. Check out the pictures.

Fun Times

We had a nice afternoon at the waterpark with the cousins.  The wave pool was popular with all the kids, but as the sun set things cooled off and the kids warmed up in their towels.  R is here hugging cousin R.
