Spring may finally be arriving
Posted by ahechtenns On April 6, 2008
Well it seems that spring might indeed be arriving. It was a delightful 12 degrees today, and the snow was melting away. (Although we still have lots!). Her and neighbour B were outside, shovelling the snow and having a great time.
The Maple Syrup Festival
Posted by ahechtenns On April 5, 2008
We had a great time at the Maple Syrup Festival this weekend. We had a good time. It was very busy though! The best part was looking through “Old MacDonald’s Farm”. We saw lots of animals, sheep, chicks, hens, pigs, a pony, a horse, and a cow. The highlight however, was R milking a cow. Don’t worry it wasn’t real! The ‘milk’ was water that fell back into the bucket, and recycled back through the cow! How cool is that!
AN ADOPTION UPDATE!!!
Posted by ahechtenns On April 4, 2008
Yes, it’s true. We finally have an update to pass along regarding our family expansion. The director of our agency, Imagine Adoption (formerly known as Kids Link), recently returned from Zambia and had informaiton to pass along. The new foster home in Lusaka has been set up, and is now ready to receive kids. The first few infants have moved in already. The compound is able to hold around 50 children. The next steps are that the children in the home will be PCR DNA tested for HIV, then given a medical. Then the kids will be ready to be matched to famliies!
Once we accept the referral, our 90 day fostering period will start. This time will be served in the Imagine Adoption transition/foster home. We will be able to travel a bit before the 90 days are up, at which point we will go to court to officialize (is that a word?) the adoption. We are excited, as it does look like we’ll be receiving a referral in the next few weeks. I’ll be even more delighted when we can show you all our referral!

Need I say more? This neice of mine is cuteness herself.
R says (yup, more)
Posted by ahechtenns On April 2, 2008
Whenever R is hungry these days, I ask her exactly how hungry she is. In keeping with this theme, this is the conversation at our supper table. ” I’m so hungry I could eat an Oma!” Uncle B laughs, and R looks at him and says “It is so serious, it’s not funny Uncle B”.
Funny things R says

So we were having a nice supper. I tell R to run upstairs and tell Auntie V that I can hold Zoya so she can eat. R replies to me, “She’s not upstairs, she’s downstairs milking Z!! Yes, that is how my daugher describes nursing!
The other day at breakfast, R was chatting while I was trying to talk to Uncle B, and she finally looks up, gives a BIG sigh, puts her hand under her chin to prop herself up and says “Oh just ignore me…”!!
She is also very dear. After reading bedtime stories, she insists on “Family Hug”, and pulls our heads all close and kisses us each and tells us “I love you guys”.
Waiting on the edge…

Well, today is day 121 of waiting to hear from our Social worker about our referral. It’s crappy. Enough said. Well R is also feeling the wait. She tells daddy today at bedtime, “When people say you are going to get a referral, and you don’t get one, that’s not nice”… Out of the mouth of babes.
R is pretty funny. She is highly unmotivated to get dressed, or dressed in winter clothes these days. So after she brushed her teeth, she is in our bedroom, getting her pjs on quick as a wink. I asked her what the rush was, she said “Daddy said we could go see Z in her bath” (Z is 13 weeks). I said “I don’t think daddy said that”, and she insisted, “Yes he DID”. Daddy walks in, and tells her that actually he never said that. She gets irrate, and yells at the top of her lungs “TELL THE TRUTH DADDY” What a character.
We played out in the snow today. Yes SNOW. March 26, and do we have snow. The banks around our driveway are around 4-5 feet. Anyways. We still had a good time, R especially as she was eating snow.
Happy Birthday Daddy!

Well daddy had a birthday today. Not much fun for him, as he had to work. Still we managed dinner out with the family. After a delicious dessert of coconut cream by (Birthday boy’s choice), we spent some time talking. Little Z made the rounds, sitting quite happily with Opa, and also with Oma. Later in the evening Z had some time in her new (previously owned) Bumbo seat. She was just too cute. Check out the gallery.
Neighbourhood egg hunt and birthday celebrations

Like that picture? What it really says is “Fine mummy, I’m looking at your camera, take your picture already.”
Today was a busy day. It was cold (-10) with the wind but beautifully sunny. We walked down to our local school with our neighbours for the neighbourhood easter egg hunt. R and B rode in the wagon. The hunt was fun, but the school yard had been packed down, rutted with footprints, then it melted again, then froze. It was a very slippery nightmare to walk on. Afterwards, the kids traded in their plastic eggs for a toy. The local Starbucks provided hot chocolate and coffee, that was just perfect on such a cold day.
Later on in the evening grandma and grandpa took us out for supper at a place called “The Blue Moon”. They had good schnitzel. There was also someone doing live music, which R loved. A few songs in he started doing some kids’ songs and R went up to the front to dance. She was sad when we had to leave. Then we had cake at Grandma and Grandpa’s to celebrate grandma’s birthday that we missed while she was away. A fun day, here are the pictures
Colouring Easter Eggs
Posted by ahechtenns On March 21, 2008
We coloured eggs today. I was quite worried this morning when I went grocery shopping, as they were all out of egg colouring kits! I quickly went to Michael’s and they were also out of the normal kits. I found one small kit “Ukrainian Colouring” kit. It was 4 times the price as the other packs, but it seems later it was quite worth it. The colours in the kit were super vivid. Unfortunately, it also ment that these dyes were hard to get off our hands! My finger still looks all red and yucky! I’m posting some pictures in a gallery. The last picture is of Uncle B and R having a ‘Picnic” on the floor. Uncle B is a good sport!
