Senior Kindergarten

We had the chance to meet R’s teacher tonight, and see her classroom. It was quite nice to mingle with the other parents as well. Apparently R has no problems at school, has made friends, and has even taken some of the JKs under her wing. There are at least 2 Chinese girls who don’t speak any english. That doesn’t seem to matter though, they still seem taken with her. They are studying the book “Chicka chicka boom boom” this week. So the art in the picture is her version of the alphabet tree in the book.

Cabin

R had a great time at the cabin. We were up to cut down some dead trees. She was quite happy to putter around in the water. There was no beach to speak of, as the water was very high this year. So, even without the beach, R spent a lot of time in the water picking lillypads, and making people out of sand. I know her face it dark in this picture, but I love the look of the water.

The end of an erra

Well, it’s the end of an erra. Daddy’s ‘ghetto blaster’ finally died. He bought it on his first work term about 18 year ago! Wow, I can believe I typed that. He remembers buying it at a store called “Majestic Sound Warehouse”. The freaky thing is that I bought my first “ghetto blaster” at that same store, around the same time! It is a sad time. R had been using it in her room for the last 2 years and it has finally decided to stop working. Sigh.

Summer outside

Yesterday and today have been hot. I mean really hot. 43 Degrees with the humidity. Yuck. This is about the first really hot humid days since about late May. R and her friend had a good time outside playing in the little pool. Here she is taking a break on her towel. (singing, therefore the weird expression)

Celebrating

Today we celebrated Auntie V’s Birthday with family. In addition, we were blessed to have Oma with us, only 2 weeks after her hip surgery. She is doing amazing. We managed to wrangle the girls outside for a photo. My lens was fogging up with the humidity, so the picture is a little wonky. Cute aren’t they!

Camp

R was at a local Arts camp this week. The theme was “The Silk Road”. She had lots of fun, made new friends, and lots of crafts of course. In the picture she is beside her painting of a Chinese Landscape. (the other painting was painted by someone quite a few years older than her).

She did it!!

Well, i don’t have a picture yet, don’t worry I will, it is just a matter of time before I get some from Grandma. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Grandpa is back from Germany. He’s been gone for a few months, and R was thrilled that Grandpa-wampa was home. So last weekend they had a sleepover. (R at Grandpa’s house) It went well. She has a very hard time sleeping away from us. So this past week, Grandpa asked R if she wanted to go to the cabin with him and Grandpa. She had a tough time making the decision. She would tell me “Mummy, I want to go, but I will miss you and daddy!”. So I gently encouraged her, but let her make her own decision. So on Friday, she left at 2pm with Grandma and Grandpa for the cabin. I should mention the cabin is about 4-5 hours away, so it is a real comittment. Well she had a grand time. Catching frogs, boating around, swimming, and collecting shells. She also managed to sleep in her bunk by herself, for the whole night, both nights. Wow. She doesn’t do that at home!! We are so proud. (ok, and a bit sad that she’s growing up!)

Mummy-paparrazi

R and her little cousin were outside today, so I grabbed the camera (so did Auntie V!) and went to click. I just sorted through the oh, 280 or so pictures, and came up with just one for you for the moment. I will have to put up a gallery, as there are some oh-so-cute-ones. I am proud to say I made the dress R is wearing. She was in camp for part of the day last week, and it took me all that time and a bit more to sew! Well, I am very glad it is done.

Fathers Day

Well we had a lovely Father’s Day brunch. I did manage to snap a pic of the men in question. Uncle B was not too keen on the pic though.
