R says

We went on a longer car trip today, and I needed to pack supplies for 2 kids for a few hours. This was a lot easier with only a 5 year old to entertain. Little babies come with lots of stuff!! Anyways. R was already in the car, and as I got in, I let out a big sigh. I hear R’s little voice from the back seat say “It’s hard being a parent isn’t it mummy”. Sure is sweetie! It immediately made everything worth it.
First time

Today was another first. We set up the crib in J’s room. He has been sleeping in a bassinet prior to this. Here he is asleep in it. He’s so small! And you know, he is in the exact same spot when we go get him later!
Things that make me smile

I forgot to mention the other day. After we prayed for supper, R complained that she wanted to pray, so we prayed again, and this is how her prayer went. “Dear God, thank you for the food in front of us…(pause) thank you for cucumbers…(pause) thank you for a very nice mummy and daddy and brother.” How sweet is that! It sure made me smile.
Daddy seems able to get J to smile on command. He does this “dugga-dugga-dugga” thing while tickling his belly. Here are the results. Again, something wonky with my flash, please ignore that!
And, today was also the first day that Joseph paid attention to the elephant hanging from his bouncy chair. He sort of batted at it.
Handsome little guy no??

Ok, so the lighting is right wacked in this photo. Here I though the sunlight would be nice, not realizing that it was REALLY R-E-A-L-L-Y sunny. Anyways. Our good friends and neighbours gave it to him, how stylin’! J is sleeping now, and has been for about 3 hours. He started his ‘night’ early, I’m hoping that doesn’t throw the rest of the evening off….
Fascination

J is quite often fascinated with the swing. Here is a picture of that.
Here is a close up of him staring.
This is what he is staring at, these “lights”. Strange, but he really likes it. Whatever works I suppose!

I tried to take some pictures of my kids. I just love writing that. “My kids”. I especially like the plural, kidS as opposed to just kid. 🙂
Anyways. I am attempting to post multiple pictures here in the body instead of in a gallery. Here I go!
So I started with J on the blanket, then moved to take a few more shots. By the way, this boy is STRONG! He holds his head up very well, but also is super strong throughout his core (this info from a friend who has had 4 kids, since I know nothing about newborns).
Of course R then came over and wanted to know what I was doing, then she crawled on the table too.
Then J became unhappy, so he went back to the swing, and R stayed with me for a bit, until she was bored too.
We got ready to go outside, here is the little bundle and his sister…
And by the way, the super cute hat on R was made by a good friend who has a site on
Etsy.
We are ready for a vacation

Before we knew about baby J, we had planned to be on a cruise this week with Oma and Opa, as well as Uncle B, Auntie V, and Z. We are feeling down about missing out on that. (J’s papers haven’t arrived). Still, I dressed J in his summer onsie, and R in her swim suit. We are ready to book a southern vacation as soon as we can get a passport!

Well, my dear friends surprised me yesterday with a shower. I was overwhelmed. They gave me (our family) gifts, but far more precious are the blessings they gave us. I cried. I’m not sure if I had really cried since we adopted J or not, but all the love and overwhelming joy came out last night in my tears. Thank you dear friends.
Family words
Posted by ahechtenns On November 5, 2009
I was reading a post on a favourite blog of mine, and she talked about how each family develops their own words that they use. So we have a few, here they are.
Forking: verb as in “R don’t fork the table”. Or “R fork your noodles”
Doinking: verb as in “R don’t doink your brother”, or “R no more doinking”
I also just came up with a new one the other day. I was noticing that lots of people use blogging as therapy. So my new word is “Blerapy”. Blog + Therapy = blerapy. So this blog is a lot of blerapy for me!
I forgot that when my niece was first here, my SIL and I came up with a new baby word. Mostly describing the stuff in babies’ necks. Swinty – sweaty + linty. I also came up with a new one. J is a formula baby, so he gets somewhat different stuffy in his neck. He sometimes has Swilky in his neck – Sweaty + milk. I have also been advised by friends that if you baby smells funky, check his neck. Sound advice.

Not that you can tell from this picture, but J smiled at me for the first time today! Daddy was a witness. Although, I think he already smiled at daddy yesterday. Oh well. There were several other “firsts” today as well. R went on a school field trip to a local apple cider mill, and took a school bus for the first time. I asked her how it went and she said she felt a bit queezy. Great. I mentioned that next time she shouldn’t sit at the back, but try the front. She promptly told me she didn’t sit at the front because she sat where her teacher told her to! She also brought home her first school yard poem about a stinky skunk etc. Great. She tells me her friend in the other kindergarten class taught it to her.
