Cooking

R was quite helpful today.  Together we made potato soup.   We even snuck some celery and carrots, shhhh don’t tell daddy.  She really enjoyed cooking, although she found the blender too noisy.  She loved the smells while cooking, but get this she didn’t like eating it!! Grr.  And this is the child that eats pretty much anything.  Sigh.

Putting up the Christmas lights

Well it was a beautiful sunny day.  A decided to put up the Christmas lights.   Well by the time the lights were tested it was determined that a quick trip to Canadian Tire was necessary.  By the time everything was ready, it was already getting dark.  Of course this did not deter A.   So quickly before supper we bundled up and went outside.   Daddy was on the roof, but R had a good time going up the ladder after him.  I bet she would have gone all the way if I hadn’t stopped her.

Fun with Friends

We had a playdate this morning with some friends.  The kids had a great time.   At the end N and R even put on a joint puppet show!

Dance class

Well R’s Dance class had an open house today.   It was quite funny.   She participated in pretty much everything, which was delightful, if a bit unusual.   All the kids looked like they were having a great time.   She is now bugging me to see herself in the video on the computer all the time! There are lots of funny pictures in the gallery.

What Daddy Does at Work

We went to my work to fax a form into our adoption agency, and R gave her impression of how I spend my day.

Ohhhh what a cute baby!

Grandma and Grandpa came over for supper (which they brought!!).  R had a great time, and she was absolutely thrilled to have 2 captive adults to entertain.   R’s latest thing is so bring one of us a blanket, ask to be swaddled, and held like a baby.   It’s pretty much the only time we get to hold her tight, so we all tend to indulge her!

R says

Sorry no pictures today.   We had a nice day, R went to school this morning, and after her nap, we had a playdate with M from her school.  She and M had a great time playing, and I know us mummies had a wonderful time talking!  R had such a good time playing that it was very hard for her to say goodbye.

Once we got her home, she was hungry, and she had a snack.  At the end of it she asked for candy, and I said no, no candy now.   She turns and says to me “Mummy, you are disappointing me!”.  What a kid.

Small Miracles

Yesterday the weather was awful.  The wind was around 50km/hr, the sky was very dark and it snowed/hailed/drizzled all day long.   In the afternoon Grandpa took R out, and I decided to whip over to Chapters to get some magazines to send to family (I’m sure you know who you are!).   Our spirits have been really really low lately, wondering when or even if our second adoption was going to happen.  It has been hard to keep up a postivie attitude.   As I left Chapters, I noticed that the sky ahead was a very dark shade of grey, extremely striking against some white street lights in front of it.  I couldn’t help comparing my dark mood with the sky.   As I got into the car, I looked out at the clouds again then turned away and went to start the car, Something had caught my eye and I looked back at the clouds, there was a very faint, but very distinct rainbow on the stormy grey background.   It seemed like a good sign to me.

Later that evening, our Social worker did call, and say our Homestudy file would be going to the Ministry (Ministry of Children and Family Services) tomorrow.   Wow.  We’ve been waiting for this for about 5 months.  We are very happy things now are in progress, although we still have this underlying feeling of dis-belief.

Anyways, we got an email from our Agency confirming that our file has been sent on today.  One small step forward!

Halloween (aka the great sugar buzz)

Well we survived Halloween!  R dressed up as a Bee for school, and went trick-or-treating around the Psychology building.   She was so excited at lunch.  Her friend B from school (and church) was a “Super Mighty”.  Later in the afternoon R and I got to go trick-or-treating at daddy’s work.  She got very spoiled there.  She was bouncing off the walls by the time came for trick or treating with neighbour B.   The daddies went out with the kids.  It was so nice and warm that I sat on our porch outside and handed out candy.   Once R was home from her rounds, she enjoyed handing out candy to the big kids that were still coming around.   Everyone thought she was pretty cute too.   Let’s hope tomorrow morning at school isn’t too rough with the “after-Halloween-sugar-night-buzz”.  There are lots of pictures in the gallery.

Pumpkin Patch

We managed to make it to the pumpkin patch this fall.   A nice cool but sunny day finally arrived (I refused to go to the pumpkin patch on Thanksgiving when it was 30 degrees plus).   We had a delightful time wandering through rows of pumpkins.  Daddy found his perfect oval shaped pumpkin, and I found a nice little rusty/red/orange one to carve.   R picked out an orange green stripey one.  There were some odd gourds there too, and R tried one on.  Check the gallery< for a picture of that!
