Daddy was the hero of the weekend. He took R and neighbour B to the Medieval Faire, and bought them lots of treats. We saw the aftermath, and it was quite scary! (Check out the gallery. Needless to say the kids were winging around for quite a while afterwards. Still, as you can see from the pictures and captions, they had a great time. Daddy also decided to let them play games that he thought would be fun to take pictures of, hence the pillow-on-a-log-fight. They also took some time to sit and watch the ‘show’, the jousts by people dressed as nights etc. But, they found some sand, and that proved to be much MUCH more exciting.

First day of Junior Kindergarten…
Posted by ahechtenns On F j, Y
Well, she’s off. R had her first day of JK today. Although she was a little nervous at first, once she was there, she was a trouper. It helps that she was back at the same school as the year before. She also knew most of her friends. The parents and kids were all outside in the playground playing and talking. M (R’s teacher) called the kids to line up, and all the parents took that opportunity to snap pictures. Then M lead them inside, and all 10 of them went in without one tear…the parents were left behind wondering where the good-byes and hugs were…none to be had! Well I’m glad. They baked cookies on their first day, so of course it was a big hit.
I broke my cardinal rule…

So, I broke my cardinal rule today. It was cleaning day (read not me cleaning!) and my rule is that I should never mess up my kitchen on cleaning day. We eat simple suppers, and if they are messy, we eat outside (ok, I don’t make my family eat outside during winter). Auntie V cooked a whole mess of corn, took it off the cob and froze it. However, she left no sign what-so-ever that the kitchen had been touched. Thinking I could be like her, I decided to tackle the 4L of blueberries that I bought today.
So I decided to make cooked blueberry jam. (I am a cooked-jam-virgin) I thought I could do it in a nice tidy way but I was wrong. There were blueberries everywhere, sugar everywhere, and hot jam everywhere. To top it off I sliced my finger on the food processor blade. Anyways, my kitchen is not so clean but I do have some jars of jam to show for it! Next on the list is another batch of peaches. Sorry no pictures!

At the pool
Posted by ahechtenns On F j, Y
The pool is definately my daughter’s favourite place to be. She laughs and giggles and laughs some more there. You can see the absolute joy in her face in these pictures. I am so bummed that my camera battery gave out moments after I captured these shots. Daddy and R have a game called ” “. Essentially every time she says that, he throws her up into the air and she giggles. I will endevour to take pictures of that, but I fear that outdoor swimming is almost done here.
Funny things R says

So it was another day with funny R quotes. After lunch she asked what we were going to do in the afternoon. I suggested we go swimming at Grandpa’s pool (the community pool near his house). She asked if Grandpa would come, I told her we could call and ask. So we call, and I put her on the phone. I hear her start with “Grandpa…can” then she hesitates. Next she says “I was wondering Grandpa….can you come swimming this afternoon with me?” What a charmer.. She knows how to pour it on when she needs it!
Later in the day, she was outside playing with neighbour B. B has a remote control car that he is playing with, and R really wants a turn. She attempts to use brute force to get it, and daddy stepped in and told her that it was B’s toy, and B didn’t have to share it if he didn’t want to. So my daughter turns back to B and says.
“B, Listen.
Let’s negotiate how we can share this toy with fighting or without fighting.” Apparently even when you don’t have the coveted object you can negotiate like you have it anyway!
Last Soccer

So R had her last soccer class today. I think she’s enjoyed the drills, learning how to ball handle etc, but let’s just say my daughter is not quite soccer material! (And I’m just being honest!) She lacks the drive to get in there and get the ball. She entertained us all with the gymnastics, poses and general silliness during the soccer game. Whenever the soccer action got close, she’d just freeze. What a darling. Check out the gallery.
Happy Birthday Uncle M!

Once again it was a delight to celebrate another family birthday. We only have 2 family birthdays in summer on both sides of the family, so it’s fun to celebrate during this ‘dry spell’. We had a lovely steak dinner at Grandma & Grandpa’s. After gulping down their meals, the kids had a fun time playing hospital. The kiddie picnic table was their X-ray machine, and they’d take x-rays, then go consult their books. There were lots of broken bones. It was quite hilarious to watch. Later they used the slide and picnic table to make a race car. It was fun to see the 3 cousins so imaginative. Check out a few pictures in the gallery.
Happy Birthday Auntie V

Happy Birthday Auntie V!
We were treated to a delicious supper that Auntie V wanted to cook herself. It was a delightful evening chatting with friends and family. May you be blessed with many, many more years. We are so happy that you are here with us to celebrate.
Day 7 NS

Well our vacation is wrapping up. Halifax is much like any other big city in Canada. Our hotel is quite close to the Harbour front, and it seems our arrival has conicided with a Buskers festival at the harbour front. So we spent the morning there, and even managed to watch an entire show with R. She has been eating fish and chips (but she only eats the fish) every day. I can’t believe it, but she does. Other than the buskers, we had a relaxing day, ending with a long swim. See you soon!
