R’s sunday school program was this morning. It was great. Of course I especially loved R’s class’ presentation. They were first angels, then shepherds. So they had halos on, and also carried sheep and staffs. It is always great to see all those kids participating….and the famous brown paper bags they get afterwards, hasn’t changed much since I was a kid. Ok, it has, as I kid I remember lots of un-shelled peanuts in the bag! No peanuts now-a-days.

But today is Z’s 1st birthday! We are having a party tomorrow, so today is pretty quiet. Still, the tree is up, decorated, we are ready!
Last day of school adventures

R’s last day of school before the holidays turned out to be a doozie. We knew there was a big snow storm coming, but at 8am, there was not a flake in sight. It started around 9am, when I dropped R off at school. The snow was falling heavily already. I was glad I had on my YELLOW PARKA. You just know it’s bad weather when I break out the YELLOW PARKA, it’s ready for any sort of snowstorm. Anyways. By the time I went to pick her up, the snow was already about 12 inches deep. We slogged through, a friend of R’s from school was having all his classmates and parents over for lunch. We had a great time. (oh, and so did the kids!). By the time we left around 2:30pm there was well over 18 inches. Agh! Digging out was a challenge, and it was a challenge even with snow tires to make it home. The side streets were just deep, deep snow. Today was also the first day that R watched part of the Sound of Music…Now on to the holiday!
Lights

Daddy had a good idea today, he took R to the local park to see the Christmas lights. He decided that it was a ‘warm balmy’ night (only around 0 degrees) so they went. I have now switched into Christmas panic mode, and decided I needed to hit the sewing machine. Things are progressing, that is the good news.

I’m an expert

So, I was helping R get dressed in snow pants, jacket etc. As I was zipping her up, R tells me, “Mummy, you are the best zipper-puller-upper”. I said thanks, and she continues, “We should have a talent show, and you should pull up zippers”. So, there you have it. I am an expert zipper-puller-upper!
Breakfast with Santa

We had our annual Bamboo Bunch breakfast with Santa this morning. R didn’t mind sitting on Santa’s lap this year, and she also told him she’d been good this past year….well…I didn’t say anything contrary! R and N had a great time together, and sat together in the same chair colouring waiting their turn. I couldn’t resist snapping this picture.
Snack day

Today was my volunteer day at R’s school. I helped out in the snack room. They have a cool set up. The kids get to take their own bowls and using tongs they help themselves to fruits and vegetables. Then they find the proper cup with their name on it, and they can help themselves to juice, water or milk from measuring cups. I enjoy helping out there, as it gives me a bit of time to chat with the kids. The JKs are pretty chatty at this point. Naomi and Rebecca came in and ate some oranges, and had a good time yacking with each other. Then I had a few of the boys from her class come in, and we talked about how good chocolate milk was. Good times.
We have snow

It feels a bit early, but it seems the snow is here for a while at least. At R’s school they broke out the sleds, and the kids had a great time.
Yup, she cut her own hair

Well, all of you with young children at home knew immediately that R took some scissors to her own hair…to the grandparents….You were wrong. I did not cut my hair! After spending the afternoon happily cutting paper, she decided to try out her hair. I lost it, then cried. She looks so different now, and with her glasses I barely recognize her!
