We had a lovey day at the pumpkin patch. It was a tad windy, but we were not to be deterred. Check out both kids have flying hair!

It really feels like J’s first birthday today

Yes, I know that is strange. One year ago today our dear son came home. It was a sunny, warm fall day like today. I can’t believe it’s been a year. He was so small! Now he’s a happy healthy one year old. What a blessing he has been and continues to be in our lives. Here are some pictures from the day.
Here is J with daddy. I want to dig out the old picture of him coming home, he was wearing the same outfit (different size of course).
J now knows “Wie Gross bist du?” Or in English, “how big are you?” This is him doing it for the camera.
By the way. I bought a set of pylons for R and friends to play with outside. What a hit! The kids loved them. They set up obstacle courses, yelled into them, and watched how they glowed as they put them over the outdoor lights. What great fun.
I can’t seem to clue in…

Well our little J man caught a cold last week. As parents of a little guy who recently had RSV, naturally we went into crisis mode. We stepped up his puffers as advised by our pediatrician and he seems to be doing fine. He seemed better saturday, but then worse again Sunday. Daddy decided to check in his mouth and sure enough, you could see the tips of 2 more teeth peeking out. It seems I just can’t clue in to his teething signs…Feeling pretty looser-ish!
We had a grade one information night today. I had a chance to talk to R’s teacher. According to R’s teacher, R is very soft spoken and quiet in class.. (i had to muffle my hysterical laughter as the teacher said this) Apparently the teacher only recently heard R’s ‘loud’ voice, and was happy to hear it!
Anyways, it’s nice to hear that your child is well behaved at school.
New things, old things

How about the good news first eh? Oma and Opa came this morning to spend a bit of time with J. Oma showed me that when she sings “Bake bake kuchen” (German folk song), J claps along. I worked with him this evening and now he claps when you ask him to clap!
J really didn’t want to nap today. He became increasingly agitated in his crib in the afternoon, and when I went in, he was at the opposite end of the crip, ON HIS STOMACH, hands holding him up! That marks the first time he has been on his stomach in his crib.
Bad news? He has a cold again. So we’ve stepped up his puffers, and are watching him carefully. He is full of gunk, and sneezes lots of stuff out all the time. I also think he has lost a little of his voice, as he is very quiet, but looks like his is talking, just nothing coming out.
On the other hand, we also got his first birthday pictures! They are awsome. One for the Wall Photography took them, she’s amazing.
Meet the teacher

We got to meet R’s teacher today. Mrs V is lovely and kind. R has nothing but good things to say about her. In the photo above she is showing us her coat hook and shoe bin. Her room was colourful and had lots of things for her to work on. She was very proud to show it off. Here is her daily schedule (at least for Thursdays).
I also really like the chart below.
And on the way home, we had to stop by the playground. J took his first slide, this is a picture of his 3rd slide, with his friend.
Another milestone

J just turned one, so we were able to turn his carseat around. He was thrilled. He flapped and flapped his arms!! I can’t describe how happy he was.
Old news, but still funny

Hi,
We took a late summer trip to Boston. I have tons of pictures to edit, so I don’t know when they’ll get up. But I couldn’t resist this video. We bought J his own seat on the airplane, and this video is of him during the flight home. It’s like he is trying to help keep the plane in the air….
First day of grade one

Well, my baby was off to school this morning. Grade one, I can hardly believe it. She was nervous, but brave. Some of her classmates were crying, but she was quiet. She was adamant I walk right to the door with her, and when she was just about to go in, she wheeled around to me and says “Bye mom, I’m going to have a good day at school and I’ll see you later”. How sweet is that!
In keeping with a fun tradition, I made her a “Schultüte”. It is a German tradition that on the first day of Grade One each child gets a large paper cone filled with candies and school supplies. I wasn’t quite organized enough to give it to her in the morning, but she got it after school. Here is a picture of her with it.
At lunch which wasn’t quite as quiet as I’d thought (workers installing shelves in our back mudroom) I fed Joseph some raspberries. He made quite the faces at the initial taste!
Gray shirts + DQ ice cream = family tradition

A few year ago a strange family tradition started. Once a summer we wear gray shirts and have an ice cream at DQ. It’s neat to see the development from year to year. While the little J man didn’t partake of ice cream this year, he was still there posing with daddy’s cone!

Josie died today. We knew she had been going downhill, but still it is a shock. We’ll miss her.
